Who Should Attend Gramercy Brass Band Camp?
GBBC is open to all Brass and Percussion students with band experience from Grade 6 through 12 as follows:
-
Cornet, Flugel Horn, Trumpet
-
Eb Tenor Horn, French Horn
-
Tenor or Bass Trombone
-
Baritone/Euphonium
-
Tuba
-
Orchestral/Band Percussion
Note: GBBC is a percussion section reading program, not suited for drum set students who do not read music and may be seeking a jazz or rock style experience.
Ensembles Offered
Depending on enrollment, GBBC will offer THREE levels of brass bands, and a percussion ensemble.
JUNIOR Level / Grade 6 - 8 (grade 5 may apply if there is some band experience)
SENIOR Level / Grade 9-12
PREMIER BRASS BAND / The advanced performing ensemble of GBBC. Entry to Premier Brass is by audition only. Please see Premier Brass Band outline below.
PREMIER BRASS BAND (PBB):
The PBB is available to brass and percussion students seeking a strong performance challenge, who want to reach high in a fast-paced environment. Acceptance into the PBB is by audition. If you are interested in trying out for the PBB, it is important that you email us so that we can provide these details to you separately. Please reach us at GBBC@gramercybrass.org and place Premier BB in the subject line.
Ensemble Placement
Students attending GBBC in 2026 will be placed in an ensemble according to age and the details provided about the student's experience communicated in the registration form. Ensemble chair placement will be determined by the directors. Chair placement is based upon the situation that will best serve the student as well as the ensemble.
PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
We encourage percussion students to attend GBBC. Once our percussion faculty members have a chance to work closely with students on opening day, they will determine placements in ensembles which will also include percussion ensemble.
EUPHONIUM/BARITONE STUDENTS
In 2025, GBBC offered the Thomas K. Pinto Euphonium Chair, a coveted position presented in honor of our beloved Dr. Thomas Pinto. Dr. Pinto served as Principal Euphonium of Gramercy Brass Orchestra for over 20 years and was actively involved in the creation of Gramercy Brass Band Camp. Students wishing to be considered for the Thomas K. Pinto Euphonium Chair should contact us via email at GBBC@gramercybrass.org.
Staff Assistants (College Student Interns)
We welcome college students who would like to join with us to help with our program as volunteers. Staff assistants are not paid positions. A staff assistant is best served as someone who is seeking experience in rigorous performance challenges and/or someone seeking an opportunity to work with young students under the supervision of a full faculty member. Staff Assistants are also asked to help support the day to day operational needs of the program beyond music and ensemble assignments.
If you would like to be considered for a Staff Assistant position, please contact us via email at GBBC@Gramercybrass.org
